Jamaluddin Ahmed,

Chairman,Biman Bangladesh Airlines

The Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority appointed retired Air Marshal Jamaluddin Ahmed as Chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in 2009.

In June 2001, the Awami League government elevated Jamaluddin to the highest air force rank four days ahead of his retirement.

The past BNP-led government stripped him of the promotion in 2004 saying there was no such post in the Bangladesh Air Force. But the High Court ruled in his favor.

Under Ahmed’s leadership, Biman has seen many milestones, one of them is the move to becoming a PLC, a precursor to possible privatization in the future; ordering of 10 new Boeing aircraft, and convincing various government departments to support the recruitment of an expatriate CEO.

He has transformed the airline and customers believe it to be a ‘Home in the Skies’.

But Ahmed believes much remains to be done to make the airline profitable.
