Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju

Minister for Civil Aviation

Government of India

In the annals of India's civil aviation, Mr. Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju will be remembered as one of the best ministers to hold that post.

In just a little over two years, he has initiated path-breaking reforms in the sector that will certainly change the landscape of Indian skies. The highpoints of his tenure till date have been many, but the outstanding ones are the National Civil Aviation Policy and the Regional Connectivity Scheme which will catapult India in third place, after China and the US, in aviation, in the not so distant future.

Like most of the ministers in the Narendra Modi Cabinet, he is on twitter, highlighting the direction that civil aviation is taking. He tweets 'As per IATA July 2016 report, Indian aviation grows at almost 7 times the industry average (year on year)'.

Mr. Raju brings a touch of old royalty being from the royal family of Gajapathi from Vizianagaram. He is a first time Member of Parliament (MP) from Vizianagaram and one of the senior most leaders of the Telugu Desam Party, an ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

He has been a seven-time legislator and served as Finance and Revenue Ministers in the state of Andhra Pradesh. His father, PVG Raju, was also an MP. Both his elder brother Ananda Gajapati Raju and his sister-in-law, Uma Gajapati Raju, were also MPs.

Known to be a no-nonsense man with a clean image, Mr. Raju is widely travelled, well-read and a serious legislator. In spite of being from erstwhile royal family of Vizianagaram, he is down to earth in his approach, but is determined to see 'India fly'.
