Mehmet lker AYCI was born in Istanbul in 1971 and originally hailed from the province of Giresun in the Black Sea Region of northeastern Turkey. He graduated from Bilkent University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration in 1994 before proceeding to take political science research work at University of Leeds in the United Kingdom which he completed in 1995.
AYCI later obtained his Master’s Degree from Marmara University’s International Relations Program in 1997. Officially starting his professional career in 1994 after earning his bachelor’s degree, AYCI held a variety of positions at Kurtsan Kacları A.S., Universal Dis Ticaret A.S. and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality where he served as the Counselor to the then Mayor of Istanbul, H.E. Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN, the current President of Turkey, taking part in a number of development projects in the country’s largest city.
AYCI was appointed general manager of Basak Sigorta in 2005.
In 2006, he took over the helm of one of the largest insurance companies in Turkey, the Günes Sigorta. After overseeing a successful privatization process at the company, he stayed at his position until 2011.
AYCI’s strong belief in sports as a means of employee motivation led Güne Sigorta Women’s Volleyball Team to many victories, including the European Volleyball Confederation Challenge Cup Championship.
AYCI assumed the responsibility of promoting Turkey’s investment environment and assisting foreign investors at the highest level in 2011, having been appointed as the President of the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT).
Reporting directly to the then Prime Minister H.E. Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN, AYCI and his team at ISPAT contributed to multi- billion-dollar investment projects in Turkey, creating employment, technology transfer and know- how in a number of industries.
He also organized various international events, promoting Turkey’s investment appeal and investment opportunities to global business circles.
AYCI has been at the helm of leading Turkey’s flag carrier to new heights since 2015.
