Balwinder Singh Bhullar, an Indian Administrative Services officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed Director General of the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in 2016.

He had since introduced changes in pilot training norms which have had major impact on the industry. In a recent order, he directed senior pilots to give at least a year's notice before leaving their jobs while junior pilots must do it six months in advance.

Bhullar served as Director of Air India Limited and Airports Authority of India before he was tapped for the post. He is the seventh IAS officer to become DG in the past eightyears.

He holds a Master' s Degree in Agricultural Sciences from Punjab Agricultural University, Punjab.
