Ajit Doval

   National Security Adviser of India

The NDA Government appointed former Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajit Doval as National Security Adviser in 2014. His tenure is co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until furtherorders, whicheveris earlier.

Doval is a 1968-batch IPS officer known for his sharp intelligence skills. He was India's main negotiator with the hijackers of Indian Airlines plane IC-814 taken to Kandahar in 1999. He retired in January 2005 as chief of Intelligence Bureau.

Four-and-a-half years into its term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi' s government has decided to revive the Strategic Policy Group to assist the National Security Council and help with a long-term strategic defence review. The move makes National Security Adviser Doval the most powerful bureaucrat in India since the post was created in 1998.

Doval received his early education at the Ajmer Military School in Rajasthan. He has a Master's Degree in Economics fromthe Universityof Agra.
