Delta Air Lines has announced the expansion of its innovative Delta Digital ID technology to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), providing eligible customers with a faster, contactless airport experience.
This cutting-edge solution, developed in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), uses biometric facial matching to simplify document checks, allowing travelers to navigate the airport with ease.
“Over the past year, as Digital ID has been in operation at some of our busiest hubs, customers have come to rely on the time-savings and convenience it provides,” said Greg Forbes, Managing Director of Airport Experience at Delta. “We’re thrilled for this technology to expand to a sixth hub, introducing a more streamlined, hands-free airport experience to a new group of customers.”
Key Features of Delta Digital ID:
- Touchless Security Checkpoints: Eligible Delta customers can access a dedicated TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID lane, allowing them to move through security checkpoints simply by looking into a camera—no government-issued ID needed. This technology accelerates the security process, reducing transaction times from 20-25 seconds to just 7-10 seconds.
- Faster Bag Drop: At designated bag drop areas, transactions are nearly 75% faster, averaging 30 seconds compared to the standard two minutes. This efficiency allows travelers to check in without presenting their driving licenses or passports.
- Seamless Integration: Customers can opt in to use Delta Digital ID through the Fly Delta app or their SkyMiles profile on delta.com, provided they have TSA PreCheck membership and have stored their passport information and Known Traveler Number.
Delta’s Digital ID initiative was first launched in 2021 at its Atlanta and Detroit hubs, and has since been expanded to key airports including Los Angeles and New York City (JFK and LaGuardia). The launch in SLC marks a significant step in enhancing customer travel experiences across Delta’s network.
“We are excited to introduce this technology to our customers in Salt Lake City, further reinforcing our commitment to innovation in air travel,” added Forbes.
Following the introduction at Salt Lake City, Delta plans to launch Digital ID and TSA PreCheck Touchless ID at Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA) in Washington D.C. ahead of the busy holiday travel season. The airline and TSA will continue to explore additional expansion opportunities in 2025.
Customer Privacy Assurance: Delta emphasizes that it does not save or store any biometric data, ensuring customer privacy and security.
