Ecojet to Add Arc Aerosystems’ Linx P9 Hybrid-Electric Helicopters to Fleet

UK airline start-up Ecojet has announced plans to integrate Arc Aerosystems’ Linx P9 hybrid-electric compound helicopters into its fleet. Under a letter of intent revealed at the Farnborough Airshow, Ecojet has committed to purchasing 20 of the nine-passenger helicopters, with options for 30 additional units.

Launched in November 2023, Ecojet aims to start operations with aircraft using jet-A fuel, although the specific models have yet to be disclosed. Arc Aerosystems has not yet provided a timeline for Linx P9 deliveries.

Previously, Ecojet signed a deal with leasing group Monte for 70 of ZeroAvia’s 600-kilowatt ZA600 hydrogen-electric propulsion systems, though the regional aircraft for conversion were not specified. Additionally, Ecojet has ordered the more powerful ZA2000 powertrain from ZeroAvia, designed for up to 80-passenger aircraft.

Founded by renewable energy entrepreneur Dale Vince, Ecojet intends to eventually operate with zero carbon emissions, with early services potentially including routes to Edinburgh.

Arc Aerosystems, based at Cranfield University’s aerospace research hub, is also developing a modern version of the 1960s Avian Pegasus gyroplane, a three-seat all-electric Linx P3 rotorcraft, and an uncrewed cargo eVTOL vehicle, the C-600, which is already undergoing flight trials.
