JFK’s New Terminal One to Feature State-of-the-Art Security Checkpoints

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is set to revolutionize passenger screening with its new Terminal One, in partnership with K2 Security Screening Group. Scheduled to open in 2026, this state-of-the-art terminal aims to offer a seamless travel experience by integrating advanced security technology.

Transforming Airport Security

The new security checkpoints will utilize Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray scanners that generate high-quality 3-D images, minimizing the need for manual checks and allowing travelers to move swiftly through screening lanes without compromising security.

Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer of The New Terminal One, emphasized, “We are committed to delivering the highest standards of safety and unmatched convenience for passengers.”

Innovative Screening Technology

K2 Security Screening will install enhanced Advanced Imaging Technology (eAIT), employing millimeter-wave technology to detect both metallic and non-metallic objects concealed under clothing. This capability allows for the simultaneous screening of multiple travelers, significantly improving efficiency.

K2 President Kathy Yurkunas stated, “We are excited to contribute to New Terminal One’s vision by developing a world-class security checkpoint.”

Credential Authentication Technology (CAT)

Additionally, the integration of Credential Authentication Technology (CAT) will streamline the identification process by validating passengers’ credentials and identifying those who may require additional screening. The second-generation CAT-2 systems offer automated identity verification with embedded biometric and self-service capabilities.

Future of JFK Airport

The New Terminal One will replace the existing Terminal 1 and the former Terminals 2 and 3, covering 2.6 million square feet and accommodating more than 16 million passengers annually by 2030. The first phase will feature 14 widebody aircraft gates and expansive arrivals and departures halls, contributing to JFK’s $19 billion transformation into a world-class global gateway.

As Aument remarked, “Developing our new state-of-the-art security checkpoint with industry experts K2 will allow us to provide travelers with the safest, most efficient experience.”
