Recently at the Farnborough Airshow, Qatar Airways announced its order of 20 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft. This order brings the airline’s total commitment to nearly 100 planes in the 777X family. Earlier this year, this order was finalized and had been previously listed as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website.
Qatar Airways has been a key player in the 777X program from the start, now securing 60 of the 777-9 passenger aircraft. Additionally, the airline is the first to launch the 777-8 Freighter, with 34 of these next-generation cargo planes on order.
Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, stated, “As the World’s Best Airline, we are proud to expand our Boeing 777X order with 20 more aircraft, totaling 94. We are committed to maintaining our position as industry leaders, operating one of the youngest and most innovative fleets. We continuously strive to provide our passengers with the best products and services available.”
The 777X, an evolution of the popular Boeing 777 family, incorporates advanced technologies from the 787 Dreamliner, setting new standards in efficiency, environmental performance, and passenger experience. The 777-9, the largest in this family, offers airlines new growth opportunities, accommodating 426 passengers in a typical two-class configuration with a range of 7,295 nautical miles (13,510 km).
Recently, Boeing began certification flight testing for the 777-9, which promises enhanced passenger comfort through a spacious cabin, improved humidity levels, a quieter environment, and increased natural light.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, remarked, “Qatar Airways is a leader in our industry, and we are honored they have added 20 more 777-9 jets to their extensive Boeing order book. We appreciate their confidence in Boeing’s market-leading widebody family to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency and a superior passenger experience for their global operations.”
