Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious new national carrier, has officially received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), marking a crucial milestone as it prepares to launch commercial operations later this year.

The AOC approval certifies that Riyadh Air meets all safety, operational, and technical standards required to operate commercial flights. This achievement positions the airline to begin its inaugural flights, planned for mid-2025, as it works toward establishing Riyadh as a major global aviation hub in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

GACA awarded the certificate following an extensive review process, which included rigorous evaluations of Riyadh Air’s operational procedures, training programs, and safety protocols. The regulatory clearance is a testament to the airline’s readiness to offer reliable and efficient services to international standards.

Riyadh Air, wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, aims to connect the Kingdom to more than 100 destinations by 2030. The airline will play a pivotal role in diversifying the Saudi economy and boosting the tourism and travel sectors.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, expressed pride in the airline’s progress. “Receiving our AOC is a significant achievement that brings us one step closer to welcoming our first passengers onboard,” he said. “We’re committed to delivering a world-class travel experience while contributing to the Kingdom’s aviation and economic goals.”

The carrier has already made headlines with its ambitious fleet expansion plans and a bold brand identity. It has placed a landmark order for Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and is expected to announce further aircraft deals soon. Riyadh Air also aims to incorporate cutting-edge digital innovations to enhance passenger experiences.

With the AOC secured, the airline will now intensify preparations for its operational launch, including crew training, route planning, and strategic partnerships.

Riyadh Air’s entry into the market is set to reshape regional aviation and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s emergence as a global transport and tourism powerhouse.
