Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport, a privately funded airport in South East Queensland, and Heston MRO, the largest independent MRO organization in Australia, partner up to create a one stop aircraft parking and storage solution.
Commencing immediately, the services offered to airlines and aircraft owners include short- and long-term aircraft parking, induction into storage programs, ongoing maintenance support, re-activation, logistics, and other related services. Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport cater for immediate parking of up to 70 x aircraft, with a potential to expand this number to up to 200 units. With 2870 meters runway, capable of landing aircraft up to A380, unrestricted 24/7 access, and close proximity to Brisbane, the airport is suitable for flexible storage and maintenance of most of the aircraft types.
‘With Covid-19 having a long-lasting impact on airlines than the anticipated V shape recovery, we see a great number of narrow and wide body aircraft still parked in their original operating airports with humid conditions, high parking fees, and limited maintenance’, says John Wagner, Director of Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport. ‘We see an immediate opportunity to offer cost-effective, flexible, and one-stop offering to airlines and asset owners to park and maintain their excess aircraft in our airport here in Queensland’.
‘Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport is ideally located to capture excess aircraft capacity from Australasian and South East Asian region’, says Asta Zirlyte, CEO of Heston MRO. ‘Heston MRO complements aircraft parking with the required storage, maintenance, and engineering solutions, giving aircraft owners and operators peace of mind on asset preservation before it is returned to operations or is scheduled for end of life recycling’.
The newly formed partnership between Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport and Heston MRO is the first market driven step in a longer-term direction to develop MRO capabilities around the airport infrastructure, expand customer offerings, and create local jobs in Toowoomba area.
