At the Farnborough International Airshow, Flynas and Airbus celebrated a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the acquisition of 75 A320neo family aircraft and 15 A330-900s. Airbus and Avolon have announced their collaboration to explore the financing and commercialization of future hydrogen-powered aircraft. This partnership will also examine how the leasing business model could support the adoption of such technology. Airbus introduced its ZEROe initiative in 2020, aimed at developing hydrogen-powered aircraft and the necessary ecosystem to facilitate hydrogen flight. Recently at the Farnborough Airshow, Qatar Airways announced its order of 20 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft. This order brings the airline's total commitment to nearly 100 planes in the 777X family. Earlier this year, this order was finalized and had been previously listed as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries website. Business aircraft flight activity last month fell 3.4% year over year (YOY), with North America down 4.9% and Europe falling 8%, offset by an 18.5% increase in the rest of the world, according to TraqPak data from Argus International. The company’s analysts had forecast a 3.2% decline in North America; for July, they expect flying in North America to see a marginal 0.2% increase while European activity would decrease by 5.1%. In North America, fractional activity climbed by 12.1% YOY in June, while Part 135 and 91 flying activity eroded by 5.3% and 10.2%, respectively. By aircraft category in the region, midsize jets saw the least erosion, down 0.2%, followed by light jets, -5.9%; turboprops, -6.3%; and large-cabin jets, -10.4%. The World Defense Show 2026 has registered early demand from international exhibitors, with floorspace for the event already 50 percent sold. World Defense Show 2024 saw a record number of 773 exhibitors, showcased on an expanded floorspace, that sold out six months before the event opened. The third edition looks to be selling even faster and expects greater demand from exhibitors, visitors and delegations. Andrew Pearcey, chief executive officer, World Defense Show, said: “The demand has been phenomenal. Emirates has explained how its pilots reduce fuel and emissions during operations. Flying smarter and maintaining a strong focus on minimising fuel consumption and emissions starts in the cockpit. Emirates embarked on implementing “Green Operating Procedures” (‘Green Ops’) in 2016, taking a multi-pronged approach that looks for opportunities to reduce on-ground and in-flight fuel use, in addition to providing pilots with the necessary education, awareness, data analytics and technology to help them manage their flights as efficiently as possible. Led by an internal cross-functional Operations Efficiency Steering Group, the airline aims to mitigate unnecessary fuel burn and emissions wherever possible, while ensuring the highest safety standards embraced by Emirates are never compromised. In the last financial year 2023-2024, ‘Green Ops’ and other operating initiatives helped Emirates reduce fuel burn by more than 48,000 tonnes and carbon emissions by over 151,000 tonnes.
